Working with children with ASD, oppositional defiance disorder, ADHD, remedial of all ages (17months – 20 years). Each individual child has an Individualised Education Plan (IEP) that you will be part of executing. The number of children you work with will depend on your time available. You will be working with children in block sessions of 2.5 hours at a time. Location of where you deliver the program depends on the needs of each specific child. Program delivery can take place at one of our Academies, at school, in the home or in the community. Please note: We are recruiting Remedial Teacher – we are not recruiting Occupational Therapists or Medical Practitioners.
Responsibilities
Your daily responsibilities will be to deliver high quality education programs to children on the autism spectrum or with a related disorder. We will train you and ensure that you become experts in the delivery of a teaching methodology that has 30 years of research in support of it being a successful teaching methodology with children with autism and ADHD. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) which is the teaching methodology we follow has its roots in the basic principles of psychology. ABA coupled with our Skills developmental curriculum which is a developmental yardstick we use to set program is a recipe for success. Your duties will include interaction with parents, working in a team, building relationships with teachers at school, school facilitation and most importantly you are responsible for your child’s progress. ABA is based on statistical data so you will learn how to score your results and you will also learn from the best ABA providers on the African Continent.

Own car and studying towards a psychology degree preferable.
Training
Once you have submitted the above documents to info@catchupkids.co.za if your application is successful we will contact you for an interview. Should you successfully pass your initial screen you will be invited to a buddy day where you will shadow one of our trainers working with at least two of our children so that you are able to get an idea of what the job entails. We will also be evaluating whether you are suitable for the position based on how you perform during the buddy day. Once you pass your buddy day the next step will be theory training which generally takes one week to complete. Thereafter you will be required to write an exam and achieve a passing mark of 80 percent. Thereafter you will be invited to attend practicial training for two weeks. Should you pass your field exam you will be presented with an employment opportunity.
After you have been working for Catch Up Kids for approximately 6 months you will be eligible to sit for the Board Certified Autism Technician Exam (BCAT). Once you receive this certification you will be registered with the Behavioral Intervention Certification Council (BICC) in the USA that regulated aba globally. Upon receipt of this accreditation you will be required to undergo continuous supervision and training to retain your certification. You are able to study further and many of our staff are enrolled at the USA based Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) for further studies in ABA. Should you already have an honors degree you can consider enrolling at FIT for a BCABA – Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst. Should you have a masters degree you would qualify for your BCBA – Board Certified Behavior Analyst certification which is the top certification in ABA.
Catch Up Kids’s BCBA’s will provide you with continued supervision and training which will enhance your skills to deliver top quality ABA programs.
Salary Range
Your salary will depend on which location you work at and how many hours a week you are available to deliver the ABA programs.
Working Hours
Full time:
Option 1: 8am – 16h00
Option 2:8am – 18h00
Part time:
We require at least 20 hours a week for you to qualify for our part time position.
We work in block sessions daily from:
8:00 am – 10:30am
10:30 to 13:00 or 13:30
13:00 to 15:00
14:00 – 16:00
Saturday session:
9am to 12pm
Commitment for at least one year required! We do consider leave for exam preparation and will allow you to take leave for exams.
