Child ADD

It seems that in every classroom there is a child with ADD. Child ADD is becoming more and more prevalent in classrooms through out South Africa. The increase of child ADD is leaving parents and teachers feeling more frustrated, concerned and unsure of how to tackle the challenge. Identifying ADD can be a challenge, the most common symptoms however are characterised as an inability to focus and sustain attention. These symptoms are sometimes only noticed when the child enters a challenging environment such as school which in turn leads to most children quickly falling behind. In most school’s teachers do not have the time or resources to properly address the areas of concern when it comes to child ADD and most children are passed on to the next grade without properly addressing baseline skills needed for proper learning.

Child ADD is a problem that requires a multi-dimensional intervention, we at Catch Up Kids understand this and aim to address areas of concern with a comprehensive approach. Catch Up Kids believe that to fully support parents, teachers and children with ADD we need to ensure that the basic skills for good learning are in place. Skills such as sustaining attention, memory and following instructions are critical for learners to achieve success in the classroom. Catch Up Kids aims to support learners in their academic studies whilst simultaneously working on skills that need more practice in order to become fluent and well established in the child’s everyday routine. By tailoring a program that is specific to each learners needs we can identify which skills need to be emphasised so that each learner can reach their full potential. Teams of professional therapist implement specific programs and techniques and have experience in how to best support learners.

Catch Up Kids also understands that most children with ADD also struggle when it comes to social skills and social interactions. Skills such as picking up on social cues, assertiveness and positive self-statements are needed to achieve success in social settings and to establish friendships. Having a team of trained individuals that not only understand the academic implications of child ADD but also the social implications makes all the difference. We are able to aid in social skill development and ensure that each learner achieves academic success and social accomplishment.

Weather our learners have been diagnosed for years with child ADD or have only just come to terms with their new challenge Catch Up Kids is ready to assist in in helping each learner achieve their fullest potential. All learners deserve to be given the best chance to achieve success and at Catch Up Kids we excel at propelling all learners forward into their brightest futures.
